Safety & Warranty

Are aluminum railings safe for children and pets?

Yes. All Excell railings are engineered to meet safety codes and provide secure, durable barriers for decks, balconies, and stairs.

Is cable railing allowed in Canada?

The NBC was revised to allow horizontal railing (including cable) if the fall hazard is less than 4.2m. This can be found in Division B – Part 9 (Housing and Small Buildings) Article 9.8.8.6 – Design of Guards to Not Facilitate Climbing. There are still some cities that do not allow cable railing, it is always best to consult your local inspection office prior to building. > View Source

Is cable railing allowed in the USA?

Yes, cable railing is generally allowed in the USA. There are no specific provisions in the IRC or IBC that ban cable railing systems. However, local amendments or interpretations may vary, so it is always best to confirm requirements with the local building official before construction.

Do you offer ADA-compliant hand rails?

Yes. We offer pipe handrails and a 2" × 1" handrail that are ADA-compliant.

Are all Excell systems covered by a warranty?

General

Are aluminum railings durable in all climates?

Made from non-corrosive aluminum with a premium powder-coated finish, our railings resist peeling, flaking, and blistering. Aluminum railings are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including snow, wind, rain, and coastal environments. For enhanced durability, an epoxy coating can be applied prior to powder coating to increase the longevity of the paint. Please inquire about this option if you live within 10 km (6 miles) of the ocean.

What colors are available?

Excell Railing Systems offers 12 standard colors and over 180 custom colors. RAL Classic colors are the most economical custom option; however, we can also provide custom color matching. Please inquire for pricing and availability.

Are color samples available?

Yes. We offer builders, installers, designers, and homeowner’s samples of our standard and custom colors.

What top rails are available?

Choose from six durable top rail profiles, designed to suit styles from traditional to modern. Each profile is expertly fabricated and powder coated in-house, ensuring consistent quality and long-lasting performance. We will do our best to accommodate custom options as well.

What type of post-mounting options are available?

Surface mounted (top of surface), fascia mounted (side of surface) and overhang (surface mounted with the post extending over the fascia).

Why choose aluminum over other materials?

  • Composite or Vinyl: Limited colour options, especially in darker tones; bulkier profiles often required to meet building codes; more expansion and contraction with temperature changes
  • Steel: Prone to rust over time, reducing lifespan; requires regular painting for protection; ongoing maintenance increases environmental impact
  • Wood: Susceptible to rot, decay, and moisture damage; requires frequent staining or painting; can attract pests if untreated; treated wood may have environmental impacts at end of life

Where do I start when choosing a railing system?

Start by thinking about the look you want to achieve and where the railing will be installed—whether it’s a deck, balcony, stairway, or commercial space. From there, consider your preferred style (glass, picket, or cable), colour, and top rail design. If you’re unsure, the Excell team can help you choose the right system for your project.
